Hi there. Here’s a folk ballad called “Fair Charlotte”. I’m not a singer, so I’m not looking for any constructive criticism. I’m just trying to share the songs with others-trying to keep the oral tradition alive! Also, if you’re wondering why I’m looking down in the video, I’m playing cards because I’m nervous and because it’s boring singing to a camera. Here are the lyrics: Young Charlotte lived on a mountainside in a wild and lonely spot. There were no dwellings for miles around except her father’s cot. Twas on a many a wintry night young swains would gather there, for her father kept a social board, and she was very fair. One New Year’s Eve, as the sun went down, far looked her wistful eye, when out through the frosty window pane the merry sleighs dashed by. In a village fifteen miles away was to be a ball that night, and though the air was piercing cold, her heart was warm and light. How brightly beamed her laughing eye as a well-known voice she heard, and dashing up to the cottage gate her lover’s sleigh appeared. “Oh daughter dear,” the mother cried, “this blanket round you fold, for it is a dreadful night abroad, you’ll catch your death of cold.” “Oh nay, oh nay,” Young Charlotte cried, she laughed like a gypsy queen. “To ride in blankets muffled up I never could be seen. My silken cloak is quite enough, you know ’tis lined throughout, and there’s my silken scarf to twine my head and neck about.” Her bonnet and her gloves were on, she jumped into the sleigh. The …
Chapter Nine. -September’s POV- We walked back to his car and we sat in the back seat with the heater on and his arms around me, to warm me up quicker. “How do you feel?” He asked, smiling and kissing the top of my head. I smiled at the feel of his lips. “A whole lot warmer,” I looked up and kissed his lips softly. “A whole lot happier.” Nick freed his arms and held my face in his hands, kissing me deeper, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. He moved his arms to around my waist and started kissing up and down my neck, softly. I gave a quiet moan as he started lifting off my shirt and I fell back against the bottom of the car seat. He took off my jeans and my panties as I unbuckled his jeans, taking the off and then his boxers. “I love you, Nicholas Jonas,” I spoke, looking deep into his eyes as his dog-tag necklace dangled above me. He smiled. “I love you, too, September Armstrong,” He kissed me softly. “Always and forever,” And he kissed me deeper this time as he got inside me. It started out slow, then he went a little faster and it felt..good. All I felt was unconditional love. I wasn’t just some toy to him. He really meant it this time. Every now and then, he’d manage to say that he loves me and I’d do the same. He ran his fingers up and down my body. And I massaged his shoulders. He went in and out one last time and then he pulled out, laying back, pulling me on top of him. “You’re so amazing, baby,” And I got chills. “I love it when you call me that,” I smiled …

@clevblue well I’m a “singer” in the sense that I sing constantly-but only to myself (except on youtube). So I just meant that I’m not trying to get anywhere with my singing, that I just enjoy doing it for its own sake, rather than for the performance’s sake. Thanks for listening!
So you are not a singer hey? You are joking of course.
hehe glad to be of help!
About the genders-yeah the comment was about “Raglan Road”, which I partly understand because it’s such an iconic song. But it is so easily changed and I can feel the song more when I’m putting myself in the narrative. I have seen women change Raglan Road, so I figured it was ok. And I’m sticking to it! Thanks for the reassurance!
Aww!!! Yippee!!! It has dulcimer tabs, notes AND tin whistle tabs. You are way too cool! Thank you!
Thank you SO much! And btw, I think it suits you great. I love the sound of your voice. It kept me captivated with the lyrics, what more can one ask? Any ways, Thanks for the back ground information, I love doing research on these old songs. Sometimes the story is as good as the song. I am really enjoying your channel. You soon will certainly have many viewers! And on another note… from another comment some where…Yes you can change the gender in a song! =D
hmm it appears to not let me post a link in a comment? I’ll try putting it in my description on the right. Let me know if it doesn’t work. Or you can just google “young charlotte song” and it’s the first site that comes up.
yeah it’s so awesomely eerie. Unfortunately it doesn’t sit well in my voice so I don’t do it justice :/
A little background: A humorist in the 1800’s found a news story about some similar events and wrote this poem based on it. Then it was put to music by William Lorenzo Carter.
link to tabs coming up!
This is a great song, and you did it beautiful. This is the first time I ever heard this song. So wonderfully tragic. Thanks for sharing your talent Gosh, I hope I can find the music to this, would love to play it on the dulcimer.
